WOTD #24 - Perfume DOs & DON'Ts

W dzisiejszej lekcji WOTD porady dotyczące wyboru, testowania, aplikacji i przechowywania perfum. PERFUME DOS AND DON’TS

DOs:

#1 Choosing a new perfume be curious and patient. Don’t rush with decisions. Perfume needs time and focus

#2 If possible test perfumes first thing in the morning when your nose is most alert and not distracted.

#3 Give your new perfume time. Wear it for the whole day or longer. Wear it in different types of weather, at different times of the day and on different occasions. If you and your new perfume don’t click right away, give it a second chance after some time.

#4 Try various methods of perfume application as they may produce quite different effects. Wear it in your hair if it’s long, wear it on your beard if you have one. Apply it to scarves, collars and cuffs. Even inside your bag.

#5 Store perfumes in dark and cool places. If you have decants use them as soon as possible as they tend to decay or disappear quickly if not properly prepared/stored

#6 If your nose stops to register your fav scent, give it a longer break. It got used to it so much that it started ignoring it. It’s called habituation.

#7 Moisturize the skin you want to put perfume on. Scents do not hold on to dry skin. Unscented body lotions or simply vaseline will work best.

#8 Try other forms of perfume. Go for hair mists in the summer, perfumed oils on the weekend and solid perfumes on the go. You can even wear scented jewellery!

#9 Be hungry for perfume knowledge. Read about it, take part in workshops, go to perfume freaks’ get-togethers. Teach yourself to talk about perfume.

#10 Be tactful while criticising perfumes you dislike. Bashing them too much may hurt those who love them.

DON’Ts:

#1 Don’t buy perfume because of TV commercials, billboard ads, fads or mass popularity. Buy it only if you love it.

#2 Don’t test perfume when you’re sick… or in a bad mood. Scents do bring back memories!

#3 Don’t rub or roll perfume into your skin. Spritz it and let the molecules work freely.

#4 Don’t store perfume in places which are warm and humid or exposed to the sun. If you go for the fridge, stick to it. Changes in temperatures may affect perfume in a bad way.

#5 Don’t let notes lists or other people’s reviews discourage you from testing a perfume. Let your nose decide. The proof of the pudding is in the eating (or shall I say ‘sniffing’?).

#6 Don’t overapply perfume before going to public places. Your nose may be used to it so it won’t mind but others’ noses will!

#7 Don’t use perfumes which are past use-by date or have changed their colour or texture. They may irritate your skin.

#8 Don’t spray certain perfumes on clothes. They may stain them or leave oily marks.

#9 Don’t wear perfume before a prolonged exposure to the sun (sunbathing, skiing). Go for alcohol-free scented mists instead then.

#10 Don’t buy fakes. Never ever! Go for the real thing!
